Campaign Overview

The Strategy at a Glance

S
Situation
Antique Archaeology was an established retail brand with a loyal, warm audience built across 22+ seasons of American Pickers and 150K+ email subscribers. Mike Wolfe wanted to launch Two Lanes: a USA-made lifestyle brand for people who explore the back roads. The brand had a point of view but no content system, no voice, and no audience of its own.
T
Task
Build Two Lanes from the ground up: brand voice, editorial content system, email and social growth strategy, and content-to-commerce system. Simultaneously launch Two Lanes Guesthouse as a heritage tourism destination. Use Antique Archaeology's existing audience as the foundation without diluting the parent brand.
A
Action
Wrote the Two Lanes brand voice and positioning. Founded the Two Lanes Blog with original editorial content. Built a content-to-commerce system timed to American Pickers episode airings. Managed lifecycle email campaigns via Emma and Active Campaign. Launched the Two Lanes Guesthouse. Secured national media placements and led the Route 66 cause campaign.
R
Result
Grew the combined email list from 150K to 400K, a 167% increase. Built a combined social following of 2M+ across Two Lanes and Two Lanes Guesthouse starting from zero. CBS Sunday Morning placement reached 4M+ viewers. Route 66 campaign raised $34K and drove 61K+ petition signatures. Two Lanes Guesthouse reached 20K+ social followers at launch.

Brand Voice

Writing a Brand That Had to Sound Nothing Like Its Parent

Two Lanes Tagline

"Less People. More Life."

Antique Archaeology's voice is built around the thrill of the find — the hunt, the pick, the story behind the object. Two Lanes needed something different. It had to carry a philosophy, not a product. The brand was born from 25 years of Mike Wolfe driving back roads and meeting the makers, preservers, and storytellers that mainstream culture had passed over. The voice had to feel like it came from someone who lives that way — personal, counter-culture, anti-mainstream — without sounding like a lifestyle brand performing authenticity. Every line was written to earn the tagline rather than just repeat it.

The Writing Behind the Brand

Guesthouse Launch · Blog Feature antiquearchaeology.com / Two Lanes Blog

Copy

"Travelers who'd like to be immersed in Mike Wolfe's Two Lanes backroad lifestyle can now make themselves at home in his Columbia, Tennessee loft, the Two Lanes Guesthouse."

"The mission of Two Lanes Guesthouse is to draw people out of the major hotels and back onto Main Streets."

Strategy

The deck positions the Guesthouse as an experience, not an Airbnb listing. "Immersed in the backroad lifestyle" anchors the offer in the Two Lanes brand philosophy before introducing any product detail. This primes the reader to see the stay as a values purchase, not a transactional one. The mission line does the same work for the brand at large: it frames heritage tourism as an act of community support, giving both the Guesthouse and the Blog a shared purpose beyond commerce.

Brand Partnership · Press Release National Trust for Historic Preservation x Mike Wolfe, 2016

Copy

"Partnership with the National Trust is an honor that I'm sharing with my friends and audience so that together we can help gather and preserve our greatest treasures — the memories and stories of who we are."

"The year-long relationship is designed to combine the resources and expertise of the Trust... with the huge audience following Wolfe, the popular culture phenomenon whose passion for saving the spirit of America's history... has ignited a national movement."

Strategy

The Mike quote is written to sound like him: direct, community-first, slightly sentimental without being saccharine. "Friends and audience" deliberately blurs the line between the two — a choice that kept his community engaged rather than just informed. The press release framing positions Mike not as a TV personality but as a "popular culture phenomenon" driving a national movement, elevating the story for media pickup beyond the American Pickers fanbase and into mainstream cultural press.

Growth Strategy

The Episode Timing Flywheel

EPISODE FLYWHEEL SHOW AIRS CAMPAIGN DEPLOYS AUDIENCE CONVERTS BLOG SUSTAINS email + social shop + engage between seasons season resets
Step 1
Show Airs
Coordinated with American Pickers production to time campaigns around episode windows when Mike wore Two Lanes on camera.
Step 2
Campaign Deploys
Email, paid social, and organic posts launched immediately after airings. Copy connected what viewers saw on screen to product and brand philosophy.
Step 3
Audience Converts
Warm audience moved from viewer to customer. TV reach converted into email list growth, social follows, and product purchases.
Step 4
Blog Sustains
The Two Lanes Blog kept the community engaged between episode cycles. Each season of the show reset the flywheel with a fresh round of exposure.

Product Strategy

When the Sourcing Constraint Became the Brand Story

USA-Made Commerce · Limited Release Two Lanes Apparel & Accessories

The Sourcing Challenge

Mike's vision for Two Lanes required USA-made goods that could carry original Two Lanes designs. Finding USA-made manufacturers willing to customize at small run sizes — leather bags, wallets, crewnecks, tees with original print designs — is not simple. Most domestic manufacturers do not offer custom printing at the volumes a new brand can sustain.

The Copy Decision

Rather than treating the sourcing challenge as a limitation, the content positioned it as proof of the brand's values. Every piece was genuinely hard to make. That constraint became the reason each item felt like a limited release — because it was. The copy leaned into genuine scarcity rather than manufactured scarcity. This kept the brand honest and the audience invested in each new drop.

Supporting Campaigns

Brand Exposure at Scale

Cause Campaign · Brand Partnership Preserve Route 66 · State Farm · Polaroid

Strategy

The Route 66 Historic Designation campaign extended the Two Lanes brand into cause territory the audience already cared about. Mike's USA-made Two Lanes line created co-branded apparel and goods alongside State Farm and Polaroid. The campaign gave the community a purpose-driven reason to buy, share, and sign — tying product directly to preservation. Press, partner content, petition, and product launched in coordination.

Result

$34K raised for Route 66 preservation

61K+ petition signatures driven

Co-branded merch sold through the campaign, with press coordination and national partner outreach managed end to end.
